Fraud booked for duping on pretext of curing mental ailment

- STAFF REPORTER

A self-proclaimed godman was booked for allegedly duping a Kalyan-based family to the tune of several lakh of rupees by performing black magic acts on the pretext of curing the mental disability ailment of one of the family members.

According to the Bazarpeth police, the complainant in the case is a 29-year-old housewife who came to know about the accused, baba Aseef Hingora, through her neighbours. The brother-inlaw of the woman was suffering from mental disability for the past 15 years, and the medical treatment proved to be of no help. Hence, the complainant’s family discussed meeting baba and subsequently consulted him.

"In January 2021, Hingora met the family and convinced them that he would not only treat the patient but also return all the expenditure that would occur during the treatment, once the patient is completely cured. Trusting baba, the family ended up paying a total of Rs 3.06 lakh to him," said a police officer.

The accused performed purported religious acts but when the family saw no sign of improvement in the brother-in-law's condition, they confronted baba who demanded Rs 2 lakh more. When they showed inability to pay further, the accused stopped receiving their phone calls, police officer added.

Recently, the woman approached the police and lodged a case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.
