30 detained in Karauli, Gehlot blames politics of religion

- MANISH GODHA / Jaipur

Rajasthan police have detained 30 persons for the communal tension in Karauli district. The situation was tense but peaceful on Sunday as curfew was imposed and internet services were shut down.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot blamed the policies of the Centre and the BJP for the communal tension in the name of caste and religion in the country.

"After the NDA government came to power, there has been an atmosphere of tension in the country. The incident of Karauli is in front of you," Gehlot told the media on Sunday.

The situation of communal tension erupted in Karauli city on Saturday during a motorbike rally on the occasion of Nav Samvatsar. Stones were pelted on the rally. Around 25 persons were injured leading to communal clashes. There were reports of arson too at several places.

The administration had to impose a curfew and shutdown internet services to control the situation. ‘We have detained 30 persons and an investigation has been initiated. Police will take strict action against the culprits," Prasann Kumar Khemra, IG, police said. CM Gehlot has also directed the DGP to carry out a detailed investigation and take strict action against the culprits to pass on a strong message.

Gehlot also targeted the Centre for growing communal unrest in the country. He also targeted the style of governance of UP CM Yogi Aditynath.

Talking to the media in Barmer on Sunday, Gehlot said that there is an atmosphere of tension in the country. He said, "The Prime Minister should appeal that this situation of polarization in the name of caste and religion is not right. Due to this, there is tension everywhere in the country."

While targeting the style of governance of UP CM, Gehlot said, "Your approach (to governance) does not get attention. They do politics only by creating perceptions."
