MTHL Package I: 4-km road work complete
MMRDA chief, guardian min take ride on new road
Mumbai suburban guardian and environment minister and Worli MLA, Aditya Thackeray visited the site of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sea Link (MTHL) project along with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) chief SVR Srinivas on Monday and they drove on the newly built road from the Sewri end for the first time. Nearly 4 km of road work, of the 10.4 stretch, pertaining to MTHL Package I has been completed.
“It is sheer magic to see such work happen and the progress each month. These projects will be socio-economic drivers for the nation. Our monthly review visits help ease out minor hurdles to ensure speedy work,” said Thackeray. Meanwhile, MMRDA chief SVR Srinivas said that the work of 4 km of the C2 access road and of the original bridge has been completed. “The contractor will be able to transport construction materials from the access road to the original bridge which will speed up the construction of the project. Earlier, temporary bridges and elevators were used for bridge work and inspection,” he said, adding that this is a milestone development as it is currently possible to drive on the main bridge of MTHL from the roads of Mumbai.
Overall, 76 per cent of the MTHL project work has been completed. The work has been divided into three civil packages and one package for traffic system installation. Srinivas added that the MTHL project is an engineering marvel. “We plan to set up a museum at Navi Mumbai's Chirle side. It will have all information about the engineering work that has been carried out to construct this bridge. The museum will be driven by advanced technology,” he stressed. With a length of 22 km, the MTHL is the longest seabridge, being built by 5,000 skilled and unskilled workers, along with 700 engineers. According to the MMRDA, this bridge will provide seamless connectivity to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
