Rlys reviving special trains to offer better travel experience

The Indian Railways are reviving the use of special coaches and trains, with both the Western (WR) and Central Railways (CR) introducin­g the use of Vistadome coaches along their networks. The latest addition to the special trains is the WR's Mumbai Central-Gandhinaga­r Express (12009/10) which was started on Monday.

The officials from WR said that the Vistadome coaches provide an enhanced travelling experience to passengers and so they have attached one such coach to the train. The Vistadome coach has features that include large glass windows, glass roofs, rotating seats and an observatio­n lounge so passengers can witness breath-taking views. The Vistadome coach has a seating capacity of 44 passengers. The first train on WR to have Vistadome coach was AhmedabadE­ktanagar Express which goes to Kewadia.

Likewise, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporatio­n (IRCTC) has also resumed services of the MumbaiAhme­dabad Tejas Express,

a privately operated train, which last operated until August 2021. The IRCTC officials also informed that from April 12, the frequency of Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Tejas Express will be increased from five days to six days. The train initially commenced services on January 19, 2019, and will not run on Tuesdays as well.

Tejas Express offers executive chair car class and AC chair car class services.

Some of the important features of this train include comfortabl­e seats for passengers, onboard infotainme­nt, automatic interconne­cting doors, CCTV cameras, GPSbased passenger informatio­n screens, mobile

charging points, modular bio-toilets, windows with Venetian blinds, automatic entry and exit doors, braille integrated seat numbers and a wide luggage rack, among other facilities.

Apart from these modern features, IRCTC also

offers free travel insurance to Tejas train travellers as well as a partial

refund in case of train delays by over an hour.
