The work of laying a separate pipeline to supply recycled water to industrial units has been completed and now the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is likely to start supplying treated water to at least six industrial units in the next one or two weeks. The newly constructed two civic body tertiary level sweage treatment plants (STP) in Koparkhairane and Airoli will recycle around 42 and 49 million litre per day (MLD) wastewater.

At present, the industrial units in the TTC area get water from the MIDC at Rs 22.50 per cubic metre where a total 50 MLD of water is supplied. However, the civic body will provide water with tertiary level treatment at Rs 18.50 per cubic meter. The civic body expects to churn out around Rs 494 crore in the next 15 years by supplying treated water to industrial units.

For the last several years, the civic body has been planning to utilise the treated water. However, the recycled water has been used only in gardens, parks, and playgrounds in Nerul and Belapur localities. When the civic body had set the STPs in the city, it claimed that recycled water can be used for potable purposes. However, it could not get the buyers.

However, the Central government has been pushing for recycle and use of the sewage water. As a result, the civic body has set up two state-of-the-art STPs at Airoli and Koparkhairane under the Central government's Amrit Mission four years ago. Now, the recycled water will be supplied to at least six industrialists in the TTC area.

Supplying treated water will be beneficial for both the NMMC and the the MIDC as it will be cheap for industrial units and the civic body will also garner revenue of around Rs 494 crore in 15 years.

NMMC has already total seven treatment plants based on C-Tech state-of-the-art technology to recycle wastewater through 100 per cent scientific treatment. However, due to lack of infrastructure, the water could not be used for any purposes other than potable.

An MoU between the NMMC and the MIDC has already been signed and the civic body will supply around 50 MLD tertiary level treated water per day at Rs 18.50 per cubic meter.

According to the police, Dinesh is the main accused who used to talk to prospective customers and invite them to a designated place. Later, Sandip used to drop the two women involved in the prostitution at that place. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and asked a decoy customer to call the accused for a deal. Following the phone call, Sandip brought the two women in his auto rickshaw near Sharan Lodge in Juhu Gaon in Vashi. Subsequently, the dummy customer handed over the fake note given by the police, while the cops furtively waiting there nabbed the accused.

Later, they were brought to the police station. “Both the women confessed that they were running prostitution and whatever they used to earn, Dinesh used to keep a part of it,” said the official. A case has been filed against them under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
