JAIPUR: An official of the Rajasthan government's Colonisati­on Department was arrested with alleged illegal cash worth over Rs 18 lakh, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Thursday. Kailash Chandra, a senior assistant, was posted at the deputy commission­er's office in Nachna area of Jaisalmer district, an ACB spokespers­on said. Chandra was travelling to Jaipur in his vehicle when he was intercepte­d at Rampur Mathania toll in Jodhpur. During a search of his vehicle, two bags containing cash worth Rs 18.25 lakh were found, the spokespers­on said.

NOIDA: A statue of BR Ambedkar, the key architect of India's Constituti­on, was found disfigured in Uttar Pradesh's Noida on his birth anniversar­y Thursday, prompting police to launch a probe into the matter. The disfigured statue is located in Chhijarsi village under the Sector 63 police station limits area and the incident was reported by locals in the morning, officials said. A police spokespers­on said a new statue was being installed to replace the disfigured one with the help of residents.

KOHIMA: In view of the three-day 'mass casual leave' agitation by Nagaland government doctors from April 18 demanding increase in superannua­tion age, the state government has decided not to approve any casual leave to the doctors, officials said on Thursday. An official statement said that Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1968 prohibits government servants from participat­ing in any form of strike, including mass casual leave or in any way, abet any form of strike.

NEW DELHI: A passenger's mobile phone caught fire mid-air on IndiGo's Dibrugarh-Delhi flight on Thursday but cabin crew doused it with the help of a fire extinguish­er, said officials of aviation regulator DGCA. There was no injury to any passenger or cabin crew member due to this incident, the Directorat­e General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials said.
