6 killed in fire at chemical plant in AP

Six people were killed and 12 injured in a huge fire and reactor blast at a chemical factory in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district.

The disaster occurred at Porus Laboratori­es plant in Akkireddyg­udem village of Musunuru mandal late Wednesday, officials said. Five persons died on the spot while another succumbed at hospital. Four of the deceased hailed from Bihar.

The injured were shifted to Government General Hospital in Vijayawada, where the condition of five of them is stated to be critical. Fire fighting personnel with the help of NDRF battled for nearly three hours to control the fire, which broke out in unit-4 of the plant after a suspected gas leak.

Four die in saree factory blaze

VARANASI: Four persons were killed on Thursday when a fire broke out at a saree factory in Varanasi, police said. The incident took place in Ashfaq Nagar locality under the Bhelupur police station limits when the workers were cooking food in the factory and synthetic materials kept nearby caught fire, they said.

The blaze was later doused by a team from the fire department, police said, adding that the victims' bodies have been sent for the post-mortem. A detailed probe is on in the matter, police said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of those died in the incident.

Massive fire at Delhi restaurant

NEW DELHI: A massive fire broke out at a restaurant­cum-bar in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on Thursday afternoon, Delhi Fire Service officials said. No casualty has been reported so far, they said. The police said the restaurant had four floors and a parking facility.

The fire, which started allegedly due to a short circuit, spread to all the floors, they said.

"We received a call about the fire at Troy Lounge and Bar on club road in Punjabi Bagh at 1.35 pm and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot," said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
