23-yr-old arrested for circulating child porn
Police recover mobile phone with explicit clips and evidence of financial transactions on scanning the man's bank account
The Maharashtra Cyber Police have arrested a 23year-old student from Panvel for allegedly circulating child pornography on a social media platform. The accused, Piyush More, was arrested on the basis of a technical investigation after he shared pornographic clips on some groups.
According to a senior state cyber police official, the complainant who is associated with an organisation that is working against child pornography, had approached the Maharashtra Cyber Police and lodged a complaint claiming that a user on the Telegram app had been circulating child pornography content.
A case was registered on April 5 and the police began investigations, only to learn that the profile was created by More, who allegedly also circulated the images and videos. Based on these findings the police arrested him from Panvel.
During the search at his house, the cyber police recovered a mobile phone which had videos of child pornography saved on the device. Moreover, the police also found financial transactions in More's bank account, which were linked to pornographic content.
More has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act for the sale of obscene content in cyberspace.
The Maharashtra Cyber Police have appealed to citizens that it is an offence to share, possess and circulate child pornographic content and asked them to refrain from it. Police have also asked citizens to come forward and report incidents if they come across such content being circulated.
