Taking a review meeting of the pre-monsoon preparations in the city, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Abhijit Bangar warned of strict action against the officials in charge in case any potholes are found on roads during the monsoon. Bangar also instructed that every lamp post should be carefully inspected to ensure that it is properly maintained and no accident is caused on account of faulty electric poles.

In case of negligence, the responsibility will be fixed on the officials concerned, including the contractor, the commissioner stated.

During the review meeting, Bangar directed civic officials to work round the clock and complete all monsoon-related works on May 15. He suggested that barricading and other security measures should be taken at construction sites during the monsoons.

While instructing the solid waste management department to complete the cleaning of closed nullahs and natural nullahs within the stipulated time, the commissioner directed to that sludge be removed within 24 hours after drying. He also asked for the removal of debris from construction sites, including industrial areas.

As some parts of Navi Mumbai are below sea level, Bangar suggested that adequate water pumps be made available as there is the possibility of waterlogging in these parts of the city in case of heavy rains during high tide. Bangar further, discussed the repair of the flap gate on the holding pond, the pumping station, alternative arrangements for power supply, pump arrangements at possible places of water accumulation in the underpass and the repair of municipal buildings, among other issues and asked that officials complete all the necessary work by the set date.

Additionally, to ensure that water samples are regularly checked during the monsoon season, the commissioner directed that water samples from places where it is supplied by tanker or where water is used from other sources should be checked regularly, considering it is the monsoon period.
