2 Pak Jaish men killed in Kulgam encounter

SRINAGAR: Two Pakistani militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of J&K on Saturday, police said. the operation was still going on.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir following inputs about the presence of militants there.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired at the security forces. In the ensuing exchange of fire, two militants were killed, a senior official added. Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar, said one of the slain ultras was a Pakistani national and belonged to the JeM outfit.

Two Kashmiri residents were nabbed in connection with the Sunjwan encounter that left two suicide bombers of the Pakistanba­sed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit dead here, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

Additional DGP Mukesh Singh said the police were looking for two more conspirato­rs involved in the planning and transporta­tion of the two heavily-armed terrorists from Sapwal in Samba district to Jammu.

One of the arrested persons told police the slain terrorists were Pashto-speaking either from a village in Pakistan bordering Afghanista­n or from Afghanista­n itself, he told reporters.

Meanwhile, the National Investigat­ion Agency (NIA) chief, Kuldiep Singh, who reached Jammu on Friday evening, visited Jammu’s Sunjwan area where two suicide bombers of banned JeM were killed. He was accompanie­d by Inspector General of CRPF, Jammu sector, P S Ranpise. In another developmen­t, an assistant sub-inspector of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), who was injured in an attack by militants, died at a hospital in Sringar on Saturday, officials said.
