Skincare in summer?

-

Amost definitive yes! Just as your preference changes from hot chocolate to cool sugarcane juice and drinks, your skin also asks for some routine change. The sun god is shining brighter and the air is war and therefore the humidity and moisture content in the atmosphere changes and therefore skin care needs also change.

We all dream about a smooth, tan free and glowing summer skin but sun, sweat, grime and pollution make it a different story. In panic most people make an instant change in their skin care routine to fix the problem but the trick is to start your summer skin care in winters. Sudden overhaul will only confuse your skin, instead pay attention to details.

Therefore, the transition from thick and heavy winter care to the light and protective summer skin care has to be gradual process. The weather affects the skin pH and you need to make sure that the pH balance is restored. It is the pH that maintains the skin barrier, prevents allergies, and reduces the changes of dryness and eczema. The changing hydration levels can cause pH imbalance and little changes in your skin care routine for summer will ensure that the skin does not go into shock. Here is how to do it

Make small changes: Slowly switch to more foaming cleansers and light weight moisturizers as the winters come to their fag end.

Give your skin a chance to adjust: As the summer starts don’t go overboard with rich skin care. This way your skin will adapt faster.

The routine remains the same Cleanse-tone- serum-moisturizersunscreen but the ingredients change. Here is a short guide to switch what to what at the onset of summers

Switch the hydrating cream face wash to a gel or water based foamy

DR. RINKY KAPOOR wash. You an also opt for AHA, or glycolic acid or salicylic acid based cleanser for gentle exfoliation and reducing tanning. Cleanse twice a day.

Light and SPF moisturizers which do not form a greasy layer on the skin are a boon in summer skin care. The skin sweats a lot in summers and heavy creams and lotions will clog the pores, therefore use a gel or serum based body moisturizer. You can also use a tinted moisturizer for the dewy look all through the day.

Summer skin needs hydration and serums are the way to go. They contain many active ingredients that can help with many skin requirements such as sun damage (Vitamin C), Kojic acid (pigmentation) a retinol for night time repair.

We have said it once and we will say it again and again: Continue using a good sunblock. In summers you can switch to silicon or matte sunscreen Wear a hat or scarf to protect your scalp from sun. An SPF of 50 or higher with maximum protection is must.

You might not feel like using a face oil but a drop or two at night will only help your skin. Use face oil in the night and watch how the skin glow throughout the day. If you don’t want to use makeup in the day add two drops of face oil in your SPF and you are good to go.

Don’t forget your eyes and lips in the summer skin routine. Make sure you take a good diet and hydrate well to prevent skin damage and dryness.
