Owing to the selfless efforts of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) railway child and women helpline as well as Shraddha Foundation, a 35year-old intellectually-disabled woman from Bihar

was reunited with her brother nearly after a year.

The woman, who went missing from her native a year ago, was found in the LTT premises on February 23 of this year. As the station director saw her aimlessly roaming around the station for 4-5 days, the official contacted the senior inspector of the Security Department, and informed about the woman.

“The inspector then contacted the LTT railway childline program coordinator to discuss the same," a CR official said, adding that subsequently the woman’s custody was taken by the childline. After performing medical and Covid tests, she was sent to Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Jogeshwari. There, she opened up about her life and said that her mental condition deteriorated after her husband deserted her and married another woman, a rail official told the FPJ.

During her week-long stay at Sakhi, the woman was counselled and also medically checked for HIV, Covid and pregnancy. Opposing the tests, she even beat the nurses who tried to take her for checkup.

On March 4, the woman was sent to the Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation but it was found that she was suffering from venereal disease, owing to which her condition worsened day-by-day. In the meantime, she was again counselled and medically cared-after, and the humane

efforts bore fruits as she was finally informed about her

residential address. Immediately, the police started looking for her relatives and they were found in a few days.

After coming to know about the woman, her brother reached the Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation to receive her. Expressing gratitude to LTT Railway Childline and the Shraddha Foundation, he said that even they are clueless as to how the woman came to Mumbai all the way from Bihar.
