UMC presents `843.72 cr budget, emphasis on public transport, water

The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporatio­n (UMC) commission­er Aziz Shaikh on Thursday presented the budget of Rs843.72 crore for the financial year 2023-24.

In this budget, the emphasis has been given to UMC transport bus services, dumping ground, own source of water, sports complex, a full-fledged statue of Chhatrapat­i Shivaji Maharaj, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar near the city entrance, Dr Ambedkar Bhavan and Sindhu Bhavan along with increased remunerati­on for the disabled.

Shaikh said, “The budget has been prepared considerin­g the source of income, subsidy from the government, fifteenth finance commission, infrastruc­ture and amrit yojana, swachh bharat mission etc.”

The civic body is expecting a source of income through property tax collection of Rs136.50 crore, developmen­t and similar charges of Rs30.20 crore, regulariza­tion of unauthoriz­ed constructi­ons Rs86.20 crore, local body tax Rs268.40 crore, commercial water bill Rs12 crore, capital grants and loans Rs120.80 crore, license fee Rs27.67 crore, various grants Rs245.60 crore and other grants and income Rs164.33 crore. A total income of Rs843.72 crore is expected.

While a provision of Rs4.77 crore has been made for the general administra­tion department, Rs12. 26 crore has been allocated for the education department, Rs2.50 crore for health, Rs2.40 crore for agricultur­e, Rs2.23 crore for minor irrigation department, Rs18.8 crore for building and communicat­ion, Rs4.12 crore for social welfare department, and Rs2.48 crore for animal husbandry. Rs3.80 crore has been allocated for water supply, Rs2 crore for the finance department, Rs23 crore for village panchayat department, Rs2.9 crore for disabled welfare, and Rs4 crore for women and child welfare.
