The Kamothe police have booked three people, including the husband of a 28-yearold woman, after she allegedly committed suicide at a flat early this week. Before taking the extreme step, the deceased called her parents and informed them about her decision. However, by the time they could rush to her aid, she had died. The woman's father has approached the police, alleging that her husband and sisterin-law were torturing her for dowry.

A computer science graduate, Aishwarya married Laxman Khot. The newlywed couple stayed at the home of Aishwarya’s parents for three months before moving to Kamothe's sector 22. Laxman's parents had died and he has a sister, who resides in Satara district. The complainant, Subhedar Raoji Beldar Patil, 53, alleged that her daughter's husband and sister-in-law were torturing her for dowry. The duo used to ask her to bring gold and cash to buy a house.

He further accused Laxman of having an extramarital affair with one of Aishwarya's sisters. Her sister had quarrelled over the phone with the deceased. Patil also alleged that around seven months ago, the husband had beaten her daughter and when he went to convince them, Laxman demanded money to buy a house.

On March 23 at around 1.30pm, Patil received a video call from Aishwarya who said that she can't bear the torture anymore. The woman added that she has decided to end her life and her husband was responsible for it. Patil immediately called Laxman and informed him about it.

Since Laxman was at his office, he called the police control room and provided the address of her house. The police reached the home and found it closed. They broke open the door only to find Aishwarya hanging from the ceiling fan. She was taken to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.
