Satwik-Chirag enters doubles final

Basel: The dynamic doubles pair of Satwiksair­aj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty overcame a mid-game slump to keep India's flag flying by entering the men's doubles final of the Swiss Open Super Series 300 badminton event here on Saturday. The world number six and second seeded Indian pair defeated third seeds Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia 21-19 17-21 21-17 in an enthrallin­g semifinal that lasted one hour and nine minutes. Satwik and Chirag, the 2022 World Championsh­ips bronze medallist, will play unseeded Chinese pair of Ren Xiang Yu and Tan Qiang in the summit clash on Sunday.

Prachi national Epee champion

Pune: Haryana's Prachi Lohan won the women's Epee title at the 33rd Senior National Fencing Championsh­ip, which started at the Shiv Chhatrapat­i Sports Complex in Balewadi here on Saturday. Lohan, who had finished seventh in the 32nd edition in Amritsar, bettered her performanc­e and outplayed her statemate Tanisha Khatri 15-14 in a close final. Kharti had to settle for a silver

Om Prakash Chouhan tied second

Bengaluru: Om Prakash Chouhan fired a 66 to zoom 11 spots to tied second with a card of 13-under 203 while emerging as the highest-placed Indian at the USD 300,000 Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge here on Saturday. Italy's Lorenzo Scalise shot the third day's best score of seven-under 65 to take a two-shot lead at 15-under 201 at the Karnataka Golf Associatio­n (KGA) course. Chouhan was in a four-way tie for the second spot along with Spain's Victor Pastor (67), England's Ashley Chesters (68) and Sweden's Rikard Karlberg (69).Aman Raj (71) was the second Indian in the top-10. He was placed tied ninth at 10-under 206.

Dhaka: After a loss against hosts Bangladesh, India will hope to get their SAFF U-17 Women's Championsh­ip campaign back on track when they face Bhutan here on Sunday. India began their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Nepal on Monday but struggled to find their shooting boots in the 0-1 defeat to Bangladesh on Friday. After a rather drab opening half, India stepped up a gear but couldn't find the net due to poor finishing and some heroics from the opposition goalkeeper. Ultimately, Akhila Rajan's headed own goal from time gave Bangladesh the lead which they held on to until the final whistle.
