Kshatriyas plan mammoth ‘Asmita Sammelan’ in Bardoli

- MELVYN THOMAS / SURAT

The political scene in Gujarat is undergoing significant transformation as the Kshatriya community of South Gujarat gears up to make its mark in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. After the controversial comments made by BJP's Rajkot seat candidate, Purushottam Rupala, the Kshatriya leaders have organised a large gathering called 'South Gujarat Kshatriya Asmita Sammelan' scheduled to take place in Bardoli, Surat district, on April 28.

The Asmita Sammelan carries significance, as Bardoli, also known as the 'Satyagraha Town,' embodies the spirit of resistance and the fight for rights. Notable Kshatriya leaders such as Karansinh Chavda, PT Jadeja, and Triptiba Raol) are scheduled) to speak at the event, criticising Rupala's comments and rallying support against the BJP candidates on all the Lok Sabha seats in South Gujarat, including Navsari seat represented by Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil.

The comments made by Rupala have sparked debate and outrage among members of the Kshatriya community, leading to widespread criticism and demands for accountability. Despite strong opposition and calls for Rupala's withdrawal, the BJP has remained steadfast, leading to increased tensions and disagreement among the Kshatriya voters.

The Kshatriya community has initiated the 'Asmita Dharmaraths' campaign, covering more than 200 villages in Gujarat. Their objective is to rally support against BJP candidates in eight Lok Sabha constituencies, highlighting a clear challenge to the BJP and indicating a change in loyalty and approach among Kshatriya voters.

The choice to host the Asmita Sammelan in Bardoli follows a recent convention arranged by the Gujarat Kshatriya Samaj Coordinating Committee in Rajkot, highlighting the increasing disagreement within the community. Thousands of Kshatriyas)are anticipated)to come together in Bardoli, with extensive preparations in progress to ensure a successful and significant gathering from Bharuch to Vapi.

A dedicated team of volunteers will also be available to assist the attendees.
