BookASmile and Sound Space Foundation Inspire Young Minds

-

BookASmile, the charity initiative of BookMyShow, partnered with Sound Space Foundation to launch a choir program for beneficiaries from Abhyudaya Nagar and Akanksha Foundation in five municipal schools in Mumbai. The choir program was introduced as an extracurricular activity for school students aged between 8 to 14 years hailing from marginalised backgrounds. This sonic initiative was launched with an aim to make music accessible to all and empower the youth with the means and access to music as an art form through a structured choir program where the children were trained in vocals and choir set up which focuses intensively on classical music in various Indian vernacular languages along with English and different African languages. Through the year children are given various opportunities to participate in local events and shows, which eventually culminate into an annual showcase.

The initiative has positively impacted over 100 students across 135 classes, fostering a love for music and enhancing their overall wellbeing. The selection process for the choir program was an inclusive and inspiring journey. Teachers identified students with a passion for music, conducting auditions to gauge their interest and commitment. The chosen children, eager to delve deeper into the world of music, willingly dedicated their time every week after school to participate in the program.

BookASmile’s support to Sound Space Foundation stemmed from a mutual desire to promote talent and empower the underprivileged by democratising access to music.

The choir program has not only honed the musical abilities of the participating students but has also played a significant role in broadening their perspectives. Beyond the realm of academics, the program has helped students appreciate the importance of learning an art form, fostering a relaxed mindset that contributes to improved focus in their academic studies.

"We are thrilled to witness the positive impact our choir program has had on these young minds. It cultivates a holistic approach to learning and personal development. The collaboration with BookASmile has been instrumental in making this initiative a success." said Kamakshi and Vishala Khurana of Sound Space Foundation.

"At BookASmile, we believe in the transformative power of music to uplift and empower individuals from all walks of life. Through our collaboration with Sound Space Foundation, we are thrilled to embark on a journey that embodies our commitment to holistic individual development. By bringing music programs to underprivileged children, we aim not only to democratize access to music but also to foster emotional, social and intellectual growth." said Farzana Cama Balpande, Head - BookASmile.

As the program continues to unfold, BookASmile and Sound Space Foundation look forward to nurturing more young talents, instilling a lifelong love for music and making a lasting impact on the lives of these children.
