Agencies seize illicit liquor, drugs, cash worth `127.51L

In strict compliance with Election Commission directives concerning seizure of illicit liquor and cash, enforcemen­t agencies, including the Excise, Income Tax, Police and Narcotics Department­s, among others, accomplish­ed a notable feat on Thursday. A total of Rs 127.51 lakh worth of liquor, drugs, and cash were seized in the operation.

This seizure adds to the substantia­l haul already recorded between March 1 and April 25, amounting to a staggering Rs 32,281.70 lakh. Navdeep Rinwa, Chief Electoral

Officer of the state, affirmed the concerted efforts of various enforcemen­t agencies in executing actions to uphold electoral integrity.

In Thursday's operation, assets confiscate­d included Rs 13.93 lakh cash, 18,628.60 litres liquor valued at Rs 49.95 lakh, 193,367.70 gram drugs worth Rs 63.62 lakh, and other material valued at Rs 0.01 lakh.

A significan­t bust occurred on April 25, with the seizure of 1,52,000 gram of drugs worth Rs 38 lakh in the Marihan assembly constituen­cy of Mirzapur district.

Rinwa underscore­d the comprehens­ive nature of seizures, revealing that from Mar 1 to Apr 25, assets worth Rs 32,281.70 lakh were confiscate­d. This included Rs 3,181.54 lakh in cash, Rs 4,435.47 lakh worth of liquor, Rs 21,346.72 lakh worth of drugs, Rs 2,161.59 lakh worth of precious metals, and Rs 1,156.39 lakh worth of other materials.

These operations coincide with the announceme­nt of the election dates for the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 by Election Commission on March 16, 2024. The effective implementa­tion of Model Code of Conduct aims at ensuring free and fair elections.
