Bitcoin scam: Raj Kundra’s bungalow, at, shares worth ₹98 crore attached by ED

The action by the Central agency follows probe initiated on the basis of multiple FIRs; attached properties include residentia­l at in Juhu presently in the name of his wife Shilpa Shetty

he Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED), Mumbai Zonal Ofce, has provisiona­lly attached immovable and movable properties worth ₹97.79 crore belonging to Ripu Sudan Kundra, also known as Raj Kundra, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

The attached properties include a residentia­l Œat in Juhu presently in the name of actress Shilpa Shetty, a bungalow in Pune and equity shares in the name of her husband, Raj Kundra.

The ED initiated the probe on the basis of multiple

TFIRs registered against M/s Variable Tech Pte Ltd, late Amit Bhardwaj, Ajay Bhardwaj, Vivek Bhardwaj, Simpy Bhardwaj, Mahender Bhardwaj and number of MLM agents, said the ED o–cials.

“Wherein it has been alleged that they had collected huge amounts of funds in the form of bitcoins worth ₹6,600 crore in 2017 from the gullible public with false promises of 10% per month return in the form of bitcoins. The collected bitcoins were supposed to be utilised for bitcoin mining and investors were supposed to get huge returns in crypto assets. But the promoters cheated the investors and have been concealing them in obscure online wallets,” an ED o–cial said.

The ED investigat­ion has revealed that Mr. Kundra received 285 bitcoins from the ‘mastermind’ and promoter of Gain Bitcoin ponzi scam Amit Bhardwaj for setting up bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine. The said bitcoins were sourced out of proceeds of crime collected by Mr. Bhardwaj from gullible investors.

“Since the deal didn’t materialis­e, Mr. Kundra is still in possession of 285 bitcoins, which are presently valued at more than ₹150 crore,” the ED informed.
