Telangana CM denies role in doctored video of Amit Shah

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s lawyer appeared before the Delhi police on Wednesday and said the Congress leader had no role in creating or posting the doctored video of Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech.

Mr. Reddy, who was summoned by the police for allegedly posting the video on social media platform ◣, hit out at the BJP at a rally in Telangana, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Shah of adopting a vengeful attitude towards him for questionin­g the BJP over its stand on reservatio­n.

Police sources said they are close to identifyin­g the creator of the deepfake video but before detaining the suspect they have to verify who uploaded or forwarded it.

Five more summoned

Notices have also been served on –ve others from various Opposition parties for allegedly sharing the video.

Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur has also been summoned by the Delhi police on May 2 in connection with the investigat­ion.

“It is beyond my understand­ing why the notice was served on me. This is nothing but anarchy,” Mr. Thakur said.

Mr. Reddy’s lawyer appeared before the Delhi police after summonses were issued to Mr. Reddy, who is also the Telangana Congress chief, and four members of the Pradesh Congress Committee for allegedly posting the video on ◣ (formerly Twitter).

“The police are still awaiting the response from those who were summoned today. A dozen more people are expected to appear in the coming days. Some people from Uttar Pradesh are expected to be questioned on Thursday,” said another police source.
