Nominations of 27 candidates get the nod in Salem, 39 approved in Erode
AIADMK candidates objected to DMK candidate T.M. Selvaganapathy’s nomination as his name is enrolled in Salem West and Salem North voter lists, and said they would challenge the move in court when his nomination was accepted
Atotal of 27 candidate nominations for the Salem Parliamentary Constituency on Thursday, of the 52 nominations filed by 39 candidates.
Disitrict Collector and Returning Officer (RO) R. Brindha Devi presided over the scrutiny of the nominations filed between March 20 and 27 at the Salem Collectorate in the presence of general observer G.P. Patil before the candidates and their agents.
During the scrutiny, AIADMK candidate agents raised objections to accepting DMK candidate T.M. Selvaganapathy’s nomination as his name is enrolled in Salem West and Salem North assembly constituency voter lists.
Following the objection, Mr. Selvaganapathy’s nomination was put on hold temporarily. Later, DMK legal wing functionary and former state advocate general R. Viduthalai appeared before the RO on behalf of Mr. Selvaganapathy and submitted their explanation.
Based on the explanation, Mr. Selvaganapathy’s nomination was accepted. The AIADMK raised objections to this and said they would challenge the move in court.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Viduthalai said that Mr.
Selvaganapathy once resided in Salem West Assembly Constituency and later shifted to Salem North Assembly Constituency. During shifting, he submitted Form 7 to delete his name from the voters’ list in Salem West and included his name in the Salem North Assembly constituency. The RO accepted the explanation and accepted Mr. Selvaganapathy’s nomination.
Erode
A total of 39 nominations were accepted, and four were rejected after scrutiny for the Lok Sabha polls for the Erode parliamentary constituency, which took place on Thursday.
Nominations were received from March 20 to March 27 for the polls scheduled for April 19.
Scrutiny of nominations began at 11 a.m. at the Collectorate by a team led by District Election Officer and Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara. The nominations of prominent candidates, including K. E. Prakash of DMK, Ashok Kumar of AIADMK, P. Vijayakumar of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC), and M. Karmegam of Naam Tamilar Katchi, were accepted by the election officials. However, four nominations were rejected.
Since the nominations of the two main candidates were accepted, the nominations of two substitute candidates were rejected. Additionally, the nomination of an independent candidate was rejected for not submitting Form 26, while another independent candidate’s nomination was rejected due to their age being 23, which falls short of the qualifying age of 25.
Likewise for Namakkal Parliamentary Constituency, a total of 47 candidates filed 58 nominations. After scrutiny, 41 candidate nominations were accepted and six were rejected. The nominations of KDMK, AIADMK, BJP, and NTK were accepted.
Krishnagiri
A total of 7 nominations and 6 candidates were rejected on Thursday. On the day of scrutiny of nominations, the nominations of dummy candidates of the congress, the AIADMK and the BJP were rejected. The nominations of four other candidates including independents were rejected.
