Cong. wants to bring Sharia through back door, says Shah

- Mehul Malpani

Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Madhya Pradesh on Friday alleged that the Congress wanted to “bring back Muslim personal law and triple talaq” and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the entire nation.

Addressing election rallies in Guna and Rajgarh constituencies, Mr. Shah said, “Read the Congress manifesto carefully. They have said that we will reimplement the Muslim Personal Law and triple talaq. You tell me, can this country be run by Sharia? Rahul (Gandhi) baba, do whatever you want to do for appeasement. But as long as

BJP is there, we will not allow personal law to be implemented”.

While the Congress manifesto has no mention of Sharia or triple talaq, it says that the party “will ensure that, like every citizen, minorities have the freedom of choice of dress, food, language and personal laws”.

Mr. Shah said, “This country will be run by UCC, this is the spirit of our Constitution. We have brought UCC in Uttarakhand and it is (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji’s guarantee that we will implement UCC across the country.”

“Modiji has given rst priority to SCs, STs and OBCs in the development of the country. But, Congress says that Muslims have the rst right on the resources of this country. We will not let the intentions of Congress be ful

lled,” he said, speaking on the lines of Mr. Modi’s rally last week in Rajasthan which led to a controversy.

The BJP has elded Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna, who faces Congress’s Rao Yadvendra Singh.
