Sangakkara rues lack of intent; Hussey praises Simarjeet, Ruturaj

- Tarun Shastry

Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara bemoaned the lack of intent from his batters after his side’s ve-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings here on Sunday.

Royals, just one win away from the playo˜s, stuttered to its third successive loss on the road.

“I thought CSK bowled really well. In terms of batting, we lacked intent. We should have put away some of the deliveries in the rst six overs,” said

Sangakkara.

“We lost momentum in the middle. We failed to run hard and nd the gaps. We were about 25-30 runs short. This was a 170-180 wicket,” he added.

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey was all praise for Player-of-the-Match Simarjeet Singh and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. “I am happy for Simarjeet. He’s got an opportunity and he’s shown to everyone how good he is. He’s been training hard behind the scenes, waiting for his chance.

“He’s got good pace and control, assessed the conditions well, and bowled accordingly,” said Hussey.

“Ruturaj’s got a very good cricket brain... he knows when to knock it around and when to attack. “We couldn’t have been more impressed about how he has gone about as a captain and batter,” said Hussey.
