Daughter of retired conductor in Tenkasi cracks Civil Services Exam

Thanking the librarian of the public library in Sengottai, among others, for his support, S. Inba, 26, the Civil Services Examinatio­n (CSE) topper from Tenkasi district, on Saturday said that the library was her second home. She further thanked the Tamil Nadu government for its Naan Mudhalvan scheme, through which she received nancial assistance to the tune of ₹25,000.

Ms. Inba was upbeat as she received congratula­tory messages on her phone, and compliment­s from her neighbours who visited her. Having secured an allIndia rank of 851 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)’s CSE, the results of which were released last week, Ms. Inba said this was her third attempt and dedicated her success to her mother Stella. “My mother encourretu­rned aged me at every stage,” she said.

Her father, Srinivasan, is a retired conductor of the State Transport Corporatio­n, and her mother worked as a beedi-roller.

After completing her Class X at a government school in Tenkasi, Ms. Inba shifted to a private school, where she nished her Class XII.

She later did her B.E. in computer science and decided to take up civil services and relocated to Chennai. However, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, she had to take her classes online from a private academy. She subsequent­ly home, and studied on her own using the books provided by the librarian, Mr. Ramasamy.

Ms. Inba has a brother, Balamurali, who works in Saudi Arabia.
