owner of homes in multiple locations in India, filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Sanjay Gupta is very house-proud. Entering his Mumbai home, we know just why he loves his homes. Located in Versova, Mumbai, the four-storey home spreads over a massive area and has a 2,500 sqft terrace. The chatty filmaker says, “When I bought this home it had some nine bedrooms; and too many rooms make me clautrophobic, so I broke down everthing and now we have only four bedrooms.” He, candidly adds, “What prompted me to buy this home is bollywood actor Anil Kapoor’s home. I think

his home is one of the best homes and it sort of inspired me to make my home what it is.” As you enter the home, the foyer has beautiful artifacts, paintings and miniature furniture. Ahead is the theatre that displays posters of his movies on a wall outside. “The first thing that I designed when I bought my home was my theatre as that is my passion. The theatre has been revamped and now it is completely automated,”

adds Sanjay. The home follows a muted colour scheme, while paintings add colour. “The colour in the house is the art. For me art is something that should strike a chord with me. There are three elements that are constants in my home – art, books and fresh flowers,” explains the filmaker. A stairway with a vibrant yellow wall leads you to the living room that features muted hues and is spacious and comfortable. On one side is the bar, while the other side has the dining area. As the filmmaker is not very kicked about bright lights, all the lights in the home are on dimmers.

Door and window frames across the home use solid teakwood, specially sourced from Chennai. One of the filmmakers favourite space is the study where he ends up spending most of his time. ‘Warm and cozy the study that is warm and cosy has a stand out green wall and a number of collectibles and paintings. All in all, the home is an amalgamation of varied elements and every element has a story behind it, as the filmaker strongly believes that one’s home should be a sum total of their travels.
