Experience a luxurious stay at Hotel Argos in Cappadocia, Turkey

- IMPRESSIONS: ARSHMEET KAUR

Overlooking a magical moonscape of volcanic peaks, Hotel Argos in Cappadocia, Turkey is immensely inviting. The serenely beautiful, extraordinarily stylish, and absolutely unique hotel is built on ancient ruins, caves and underground tunnels. Unusual, yet appealing, the hotel is an enchanting blend of two thousand years of history, passionate devotion to authenticity, cutting-edge imagination of design and technology. What really sets Cappadocia apart from every other place

is its history of human habitation. This is the setting for the hotel as well whose transformation began with the vision of turning a complex of some ancient dwellings into a world-class luxury hotel. The dream became reality with the discovery of the ruins of Bezirhane, a 1,500-year old rock-cut monastery, and later a hostel for camel caravans on the legendary Silk Road. What followed were years of careful excavation and research, training of stone and iron workers and carpenters in traditional crafts, delicate restoration of historical buildings, caves and tunnels, and the implementation of the grand, innovative design by one of Turkey’s leading master architects, Turgut Cansever. The hotel’s accommodation is really unique. Rooms come in various styles, from standard rooms to splendid suites. All the rooms are situated in six restored mansions, each connected through underground tunnels. The design pays a tribute to the region’s ancient underground architecture. Capturing the feel, colour and texture of timeless stone and wood, each room is distinctively designed with Turkish carpets, artifacts, candles and decorative objects set in wall niches. Most rooms feature a working fireplace as well as the latest technology, including wireless internet and excellent sound systems, while the suites have private in-suite swimming pools.
