BILATERAL HOUSE,
CANADA
Designed by architecture and interior design firm Audax, the Bilateral house features a unique design comprising two distinct façades. The main façade of the home is heritage, while the rear is distinctly modern, however, both blend well to create a harmonious design. Located in a picturesque neighbourhood, the home showcases a design that honours the original character of the house and satisfies the homeowners’ affinity for a modern gallery aesthetic. One sees juxtaposition of raw and rough materials with refined and smooth materials. The main staircase is placed at the intersection where the old and new portions meet, while an exposed concrete wall with a steel beam is left unfinished, contributing to the home’s loft-like gallery feel.
