Tramshed, London
Started by English chef and restaurateur Mark Hix, Tramshed, a chicken and steak concept restaurant, set within a former East End tram-generator building in Shoreditch, London is a striking restaurant, especially when it comes to the art featured in the restaurant. One of the most eye-catching installations is by Damien Hirst termed Cock ‘n’ Bull’, wherein a Hereford cow and a cockerel are preserved in a steel and glass tank of formaldehyde. This artwork is a symbolic reference to the restaurants menu, which is centered around chicken and beef dishes. Apart from this artwork, the restaurant also features other playful art pieces that follow the chicken and steak theme and have a hint of Mark’s sense of humour. Nestled right below the bull installation is Mark’s CNB Gallery, dedicated to showcasing the work of both established and up coming artists. With 12 exhibitions being held every year, the space is headed by Gallery Director, Rebecca Lidert.
