The Ideal Home and Garden

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

-

Recently my in-laws decided to shift to the hills of Uttrakhand and I decided to be the interior designer for their new home. That’s when I realised a house can be a challenge to decorate when approached as a whole, and quite frustrating to organise. My sister in law planned to start with the space where we could cut loose and truly indulge. Without any second thought, we started with Eeya’s (my niece) room. I noted every like and dislike of hers and ensured that decoration would result in a happy space. My idea was to create a play space for her to spark and develop her imagination. Once complete she was overjoyed looking at her room and this incident strengthened our bond, bringing us ever closer.

This episode got me excited to work on the kid’s special issue and here we are! Following similar approach, the team has tried to cover major aspects to consider, when planning your child’s room. The team also believes that while choosing decor scheme for your kid’s room, the more imaginative and colourful, the better.

Let’s face this. Kids are moody and their tastes and favourites seem to change all the time. One minute they are into superheros, the next they are into something else. Realistically, none of us have time to devote to changing our kid’s room all the time. It is better to compromise; you and your child will probably have different priorities, so try to meet midway. The Cover Focus (Pg 60) gives you ways to create a flexible space that satisfies the parent and the kid’s needs and requirements, while the Cover Focus Plus (Pg 70) suggests ways to indulge and create a warm place for your little ones.

Ones you have the fundamentals sorted, let your kid inject their own personality, by helping choose decoration and furnishings that are easy to update as your child grows. After all, it’s their sanctuary – a place of comfort and a reflection of their identity.
