Rajendra Chandorkar’s chic and classic Mumbai duplex

- IMPRESSIONS: BENOY SEBASTIAN

This beautiful and mesmerising duplex of Shilpa and Rajendra Chandorkar is contemporary, elegant and simple. Says Rajendra, “Our home is a reflection of our personal and professional sensibilities. Being creative professionals, we wanted our home to be a space where ideas get generated and flow seamlessly out of the beauty and simplicity of the design.” The entire house has a warm and neutral colour palate, with functional, yet stylish decor that is child-friendly. A spacious living room with double-height ceilings, luxurious sofas, chic light fixtures, and a large deck is the family’s favourite space. While the living room itself is warm and inviting, the deck is the ultimate portrait of love and harmony. With its potted plants and the sea of green beyond, this is the go-to space for impromptu dinners and romantic breakfasts.

The Chandorkar’s love having people over. The dining area is the most important part of their home. Says Rajendra, “The dining area has been planned as a place where the family can gather together to share a meal or have a tete-a- tete, as well as a space to entertain large groups of family and friends. The low-lying lights above the table provide

comfort and solace during heartfelt chats and the winding sculpture-like staircase becomes a conversation-starter for the larger audience.” On the other side of the living room is an open kitchen - every home-cook’s dream come true. Since the family loves to entertain and have friends over, the open kitchen provides the perfect ambience for informal dinners as well as long chats. The stylish sofa, the artistic vases and the quirky centre piece lends the room an irresistible charm.

A den to relax in a city like Mumbai might sound implausible, but this is a home where the impossible comes true! There is a comfortable den where the family members can either just relax, play, reflect or meditate. Tall windows give a glimpse of the acres of greenery outside, low-seating sofas with an abundance of cushions offers comfort, and the pastel hues create the perfect ambience for a family night.

The Chandorkar’s home is well placed within a unique architectural style of triangular tower, which ensures optimum usage of space and gorgeous views from all the sides. The doubleglazed glass windows provide a constant source of natural light while minimising ambient noise. With huge open spaces and a bouquet of luxurious amenities such as landscaped gardens, a swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gym, squash court, futsal court, kids play area, the home is a perfect address - offering convenience, elegance and an unparalleled living experience.
