OOne of the quaint and happening suburbs of Mumbai, Khar is home to celebrity stylist Anisha Jain. A home that is simple, snug, high on the design element, while still being congenial and modish. The house is glazed optimally to let in natural light, while the design palette is inspired by earthy and appeasing hues. Opening up into a foyer, with the living room to its left, muted tones with splashes of pale and dusty pink charm the living room with a unique design language. The scarce use of primary colours adds drama to the space; for instance, the sofa in deep blue revitalises the space by adding a contrasting pop of colour. The house was brought to life by Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera of Quirk Studio. Disha says, “The family’s needs, preference and their lifestyle is what inspired the layout and the design tone of the space. Keeping in mind Anisha’s brief and by exercising our expertise and skills, we designed a space that embodied character and warmth, while still being congenial and modish. We were working while still adhering to strict timelines for this space as the family was living in one section of the house, while the work was being carried out. This was one of the challenges we faced because it slows down the entire process and we also had to keep the noise to the minimum.”

Decor in the house has its own language that is in sync with the overall aesthetic; the house has classic elements, while also incorporating contemporary pieces, which bring it to the 21st century. On the other hand talking about the layout and planning of the house Shivani says, “The house opens into a foyer, with the living room to its left. The living room is done up in shades of pale and dusty pink with splashes of primary colours to add a bit of drama. For instance, the deep blue sofa adds a pop of colour to the living room and to accentuate it we added a colour blocked rug. The seamless lighting fixtures, walls and flooring in generic hues contribute to the overall aesthetic of the space. We experimented with various elements even while sticking to the core theme. The metallic accents fetch glamour to the living area by way of metal-trims of the minimalistic lamps and coffee table. To counter the design tone, wooden chairs were added. The perfect nesting spot for the family - the den, adheres to the design tone of the rest of the house. It features a grey sofa accessorised with green loose cushions placed against a floral backdrop. Also, tucked away in a corner is a bay window seat that adds to the laid-back theme of the space. In sync with the design tone of the rest of the house, the daughter’s bedroom is done up in muted tones. It features an upholstered bed accessorised with quirky shams positioned against a pastel wall adorned with monochromatic artwork. To make the space appear roomy and bright, a light coloured rug was added. To invigorate and to enliven the space, plants are placed in different corners of the house. Anisha’s house is an inviting one. A home where there is love in abundance, flow of colours and undoubtedly loads of inspiration.
