This 7,000 sq ft house was designed with a brief to combine two separate apartments into a single expansive four-bedroom house for a family of five. The owners were keen to have a look and feel of an independent bungalow while also reflecting their love for nature. The design intent was to create an urban refuge, transporting the occupants away from the oppressive city environment. The design team decided to have a double-height living area to generate a feeling of being outdoors and serve to integrate the spaces around it. A straight corridor runs end-to-end on both levels overlooking the space and connects the public areas with the private spaces. An internal staircase connects the two levels while a bridge on the upper level allows for a second entrance into the house. A palette of carefully assembled materials served as an expression of biophilia. The flooring was done in a bright terrazzo with brass inlays. A rustic brick surface provides the backdrop for the staircase while a travertine-clad wall echoes a natural rock texture. A wooden coffered ceiling emphasizes the scale of the double-height space. The staircase and bridge were meticulously detailed and crafted in steel and wood.

Situated on the 21st floor of a plush apartment in Bengaluru, this home for a family of five has been designed to create spaces to unwind and spaces for each member. Welcoming abundant natural light and beautiful cityscape, the home also greets you with an interplay of colour at entryway. Rich teak pieces with wicker and a circular teak mirror make up this narrow space. The peonies artwork was painted by our client and that’s what inspired the designer to paint the walls in a pastel blue shade, which also reveals the owners’ love for England and London. The living room features a rustic vibe with wooden beams on the ceiling that continues on to the walls too. The arched storage unit by Aanai Design Studio stands out in an otherwise neutral space. The dining area has been designed cleverly in terms of furniture and artworks. Apart from wooden dining table and a crockery unit, the team designed this space with a teak and wicker chair and metal and wood cabinet with a glass facade to keep books, souvenirs and artifacts.

With an aim to design a home that is functional and spacious while using modern elements. The home features a neutral colour palette blended well with different textures and tones. Being a book lovers’ abode, the owners’ wanted a designated space for their huge collection of books. Being socially active they also needed the living room to extend into the deck to entertain family and friends as well as have a peaceful space to unwind. The living room opens to a deck that is finished in pine wood pergolas. The tropical upholstered furniture goes well with the greens and the open sky. The rustic white brick clad wall captures maximum attraction. As you move from living room to passage, a larger-than-life wooden shelf filled with books add warmth and character to the space. The media room, originally the fourth bedroom of this house, behind the book shelf is a space to unwind and chill.

The designers at Humming Tree were always fascinated and captivated by dark passages and spaces. Situated amidst the coastal region of Kannur, Kerala, the designers were called to check out this home and were told to design a bedroom interior at first. Black or dark tones are one of the unusual choices in the color scheme when it comes to shaping cool bachelor pads but the designers wanted to give a stunning look to the space. The sinister backdrop allows the beautiful light fixtures and the wonderful vase collection to shine through brilliantly. This bedroom was designed to have white ceiling which, in most cases, would be an unnoticeable feature. However, in this case it stands out, mainly in contrast with the dark walls. The walls are not just black but also matted with a tint of Ruassian blue color.

They are complimented with elegant custom made brass handled wall mounted lights. To create a uniform décor, the curtains are also a shade of black and the wooden plank flooring is diagonally angled to give a different perspective.

A well-designed bedroom can be very relaxing and comfortable if decorated even in black. In this case as well it has a deep ambience because of the dark walls and furniture but the grey rugs, bedding and fur foot bed creates some charming contrast.

Known for visualising simple spaces with a sense of grandeur, Mantra One has designed this 1,800 sq ft residence in upscale DLF Phase II with opulence and luxury. Enter the three-bedroom home that opens into a brightly lit living and dining room. And, at night, the warm glow from the glass chandelier and the statement Victorian-inspired floor lamp creates the right ambiance for the plush décor. The space welcomes you with bespoke craft-intensive furniture that oozes an alluring charm. The neutral sofas are complemented by a pop of saffron yellow in two elegant armchairs and a unique piece of art. Flanking the chairs are custom-designed winged side tables meticulously hand-carved out of a single piece of wood. The lounge has a TV built specially into a back panel in a brown-lacquered mirror, an impressive feat when you want a sleek and space-saving look. Design elements such as a beautiful origami birds brass sculpture perched upon an equally stunning table, a medley in wood, brass and stone, bring the look together.
