HUMAN TRAFFICKING RACKET BUSTED

ONE OF the suspects in the human trafficking and impersonation racket busted by south Delhi police last week cannot be traced, said police.

The suspect, retired army colonel Ajay Ahlawat, was questioned twice by investigators in connection with the case after the arrest of the prime accused, Pritindra Nath Sanyal. “Ahlawat had assured investigators he would join the probe but we cannot trace him now,” said a senior officer.

Police said they had issued two notices to Ahlawat’s house in Jind and his farmhouse in Bijwasan. A team has also been formed to trace the suspect.

The income tax department had conducted a raid at Sanyal’s Safdarjung Enclave residence in June, and found a Russian woman with injuries on her hand. Police have also added Ahlawat’s name in the FIR.

Sources said Ahlawat and Sanyal were running the racket together. Police also suspect the role of some high profile people in the racket.

Meanwhile, a city court Saturday extended Sanyal’s custody by three days after police claimed to have recovered documents and evidence that show Ahlawat was a close associate of Sanyal.

A police officer said, “During the search at his home, documents indicating his involvement in illegal activities such as human trafficking and impersonation came to light. Documentary evidence in the form of Whatsapp messages and SMS messages were seized from his residence at Safdarjung Enclave.”
