MAKING A POINT

-

MARKING A departure from the practice, Home Minister Rajnath Singh made sure to stay in the Nehru Guest House in Srinagar during his visit to the Kashmir Valley this time. Apparently, this is the place where Jan Sangh’s founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee was once locked in by the government. He subsequently died there. The BJP has repeatedly argued in Parliament that no one cares for Kashmir as much as it does, having even sacrificed its founder for the cause. The decision by Singh to stay at the premises, insiders say, was deliberate and intended to deliver a political statement. During his earlier visits, Singh stayed at the Raj Bhawan.
