After ink attack, Delhi Police asks Home if Sisodia security cover is enough

- ALOK SINGH

DAYS AFTER a man threw ink at Manish Sisodia, Delhi Police has sent an ‘incident report’ to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and sought its opinion on increasing the security provided to the deputy chief minister, said sources.

Sisodia currently has Y-category security cover, which comprisesatleast12securitypersonnel, including two commandos.

The incident had taken place on September 19, outside Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s residence in Civil Lines, while the minister was briefing the media about his meeting with the LG. The man who allegedly flung the ink, Brijesh Chand Shukla, was arrested .

According to sources, Delhi Police sent a report to the MHA last week about the incident, informing the ministry about the case status. They also sought the ministry’s opinion about increasing the minister’s security.

Security cover is provided to a minister or VVIP after conducting an assessment of the threat perception against them. Intelligence agencies are now likely to conduct such an assessment to determine if Sisodia’s security cover is enough.

All ministers in the Delhi cabinet are entitled to Y-level security cover, said officials.
