THIS REFERS to the article, ‘Get real on Russia’ (IE, September 27). Military exercises between Pakistan and Russia are not inconsequential. During the cold war, Pakistan was an American ally. The country’s soldiers played a vital role in forcing the Soviet Union to retreat from Afghanistan. India‘s growing friendship with the US may lead Russia to improve its ties with Pakistan and China.
