Govt hikes salaries of guest teachers

THE DELHI government on Thursday raised the salaries of guest teachers, who have cleared Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), by close to 90 per cent.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said after a cabinet meeting that salaries of teachers who have not cleared CTET will also be increased by up to 44 per cent. “Government has approved substantial hike in salaries of 17,000 guest teachers. We have also approved eight causal leaves for those teachers who have cleared CTET. They will now get fixed salary every month,” Kejriwal said.

There are 17,000 guest teachers in government schools. Of them, there are 2,000 NON-CTET.

The file regarding the decision will be sent to the Lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for clearance. Once that is done, the new salaries will be applicable from next month, Kejriwal said.

Currently, government pays all guest teachers - including CTET and NON-CTET teachers daily wages.

Assistant primary teachers (CTET), who presently get Rs 700 remuneration per day and Rs 17,500 monthly, will receive Rs 33,200, while trained graduate teachers (TGTS) will now get Rs 33,120, up from the present Rs 20,000. Similarly, PGTS will receive a salary of Rs 34,100 every month against Rs 22,500 earlier.

Assistant teachers, who are NON-CTET, will get Rs 25,000, up from Rs 17,500 and TGTS, who now receive Rs 20,000, will get Rs 26,500.

Teachers who have not cleared CTET will be giver two chances to do so and will be given increased salaries if they pass.
