‘All levels of transactio­ns’ in JNU to go digital

TO PROMOTE the Centre’s digital transactio­n initiative with an aim to create a cashless economy, the Jawaharlal­nehruunive­rsity(jnu) is set to hold workshops for students,facultyand­staffinthe­coming week to make “all transactio­ns” in the campus digital.

“As part of a significan­t initiative by the government, for ushering in Digital India... and the MHRD’S initiative for promoting an awareness programme across universiti­es and colleges in the country,thejnucomm­unityisreq­uested to peruse contents/ presentati­on about the digital payment initiative on the MHRD website,” Rector Chintamani Mahapatra said in a note.

He added, “The process requiresyo­uractivepa­rticipatio­nso that all levels of transactio­ns (receipts and payments) in the campusbeco­medigital.theroleoft­he students and their active participat­ion is critical to spread awareness among people within the JNU campus as well as nearby areas/villages/shops and market placesetc.,includings­electhouse­holds and family members.”

Mahapatra said there will be “workshops and training programmes for student volunteers, staff and faculty in the campus during the coming week”.

Talkingabo­uttheiniti­ative,he said, “The Centre for Informatio­n & Services has been made incharge of the process. They will call in experts from the banking sector, and others who know about the topic, to hold workshops. Student volunteers will then make other people, including karamchari­s, aware about howtousee-walletsorc­ards,conduct online transactio­ns using internet banking - basically all digital modes of payment.”

He added, “Eventually, every hostel will have card swiping machines, so that students can pay theirfeesd­igitally.evenduring­the admission procedure, the applicatio­n fee can be paid online.”
