AAP MP Mann suspended for remainder of Winter Session
AAM AADMI Party MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann was on Friday suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remaining part of Winter Session for putting the security of Parliament House at risk by livestreaming security system inside the complex.
The Winter Session is scheduled to conclude on December 16 and has three working days left. A ninemember Lok Sabha committee had earlier indicted Mann for the act.
The House carried through a motion moved by Kirit Somaiya, chairman of the committee that inquired into the issue, by a voice-vote.
The motion said, “The House, having taken note of the report of the committee to inquire into the improper conduct of a member of Lok Sabha, accepts the findings and recommendations of the committee that Bhagwant Mann has committed a highly objectionable act unbecoming of a member...and that he may be suspended from membership of the House for the remaining period of the current session.”
While setting up the inquiry during the Monsoon Session, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had asked Mann to stay away from House proceedings while the committee examined his conduct. She issued the same directive after the committee’s term was extended during Winter Session. It effectively meant the punishment awarded to Mann amounted to his suspension for two sessions.
