SP feud: Mulayam meets Azam Khan, other leaders

AMID THE ongoing crisis within Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav continued to hold meetings on Wednesday. On Tuesday, he had met son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, brother Shivpal Singh Yadav and some other SP leaders.

On Wednesday, Mulayam had several rounds of meetings with senior minister Azam Khan and Shivpal. His nephew and party MP from Badaun, Dharmendra Yadav, who is known to be supporting Akhilesh in the ongoing feud, too reached Mulayam’s place later in the day.

Azam, after staying at Mulayam’s residence for about three hours, went to the CM’S residence. After meeting Akhilesh, Azam returned to Mulayam’s place with Dharmendra.

According to sources, minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, former ministers Om Prakash Singh and Narad Rai were also at Mulayam’s residence. Gangstertu­rned-politician Atiq Ahmed too met him. Atiq has been named SP candidate from Kanpur Cantonment in Mulayam’s list.

While the outcome of the meetings is yet to be known, party workers outside party state headquarte­rs and Mulayam’s residence, hoped that Azam’s efforts would be fruitful in bringing about a truce.

Sources said Shivpal reached Mulayam residence on Wednesday morning and stayed there till late in the evening.

Akhilesh attended a few government events Wednesday and met some close leaders at his residence. The three-hour meeting between Mulayam and Akhilesh Tuesday could not help in settling the issue while Ramgopal Yadav in Delhi maintained that there was no possibilit­y of a truce now and they will be contesting all the 403 seats.
