No Child’s Play

WHEN JAYATI Bose, celebrity stylist to Bollywood stars like Vidya Balan and Shruti Haasan, decided to try her hand at designing, she didn’t take to glitzy red carpet ensembles or the textile-rich creations she dresses her clients in. Instead, Bose, inspired by her four-year-old daughter, and her own childhood memories of growing up in Asansol, West Bengal, launched a clothing line for children in October 2016, “Chotto Golpo”, meaning tiny tales in Bengali. It uses handwoven weaves, especially 100 per cent natural cotton, and Jamdani fabrics. Her innately Bengali aesthetic ensures that the cuts are classic, the shapes are simple and the textile is the star of the collection. Bose will be showcasing her sustainable line of kidswear at Vintage Garden in Bandra on January 21 and 22. Every purchase comes with a takeaway present — plant seeds so that children can experience the joy of nurturing.
