Eman to be shifted to Abu Dhabi hospital

EGYPTIAN PATIENT Eman Ahmed, believed to be the world’s heaviest woman, is set to be transferre­d to Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Eman’s sister Shaima Selim had written to the UAE hospital seeking medical aid. Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, founder of health conglomera­te VPS Healthcare which runs Burjeel Hospital, visited Eman Thursday. He has agreed to provide her free treatment.

Eman’sfamilyhas­beenlocked in a month-long dispute with authoritie­s of Mumbai-based Saifee Hospital over her discharge date.

Saifee Hospital announced Thursday that they had completed their part of the treatment. “She is stable and all parameters are under control. She will continue to need neurologic­al rehabilita­tion and physiother­apy. Secondary physiother­apy will continue over there as it is closer to home for Eman and her family,” Dr Aparna Bhasker, bariatric surgeon, said.

The hospital is yet to finalise the discharge date, but officials said it will be in the next 10 days.

On Thursday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called thehospita­lauthoriti­estoenquir­e about the situation.
