Woman killed in hit-and-run in Paschim Vihar, her son injured

A WOMAN was killed while her son was injured after an SUV rammed into their scooter from behind in Outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, officers said.

Police said the incident took place on Monday evening around 4 pm, during Holi, on Outer Ring Road in Paschim Vihar area. Mohini and her son Jagmeet were heading home on their scooter at the time.

Jagmeet was driving while his Mohini was sitting pillion.

In the FIR, filed on Jagmeet’s complaint, he said that when they reached a hotel on the Outer Ring Road, a white Creta collided with their scooter from behind, dragging them for some distance. The car then hit another vehicle before coming to a halt.

“As the car's driver slowed down near Bhairon Gol Chakkar, my scooter veered to one side and I immediatel­y rushed to my mother's side. She had sustained several injuries on her head, shoulder and back,” the FIR further said.

Jagmeet added that bystanders removed him from the vehicle, and he later found out that the driver had fled from the scene.

The complainan­t told police that he took his mother to a nearby hospital in Meera Bagh, where the doctor declared her dead after examinatio­n.

“I also received treatment at the same hospital. Later, my mother's body was transferre­d to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangolpuri for the autopsy,” the complainan­t said in the FIR.

DCP (Outer Delhi) Jimmy Chiram said that the accused is currently absconding after he fled the spot. Vital leads have been received about his location.

A case under the IPC sections pertaining to rash driving and causing death by negligence has been lodged at Paschim Vihar (West) Police Station, said police.

Crime and forensic science teams have also inspected the spot, officials said.
