Probe post against Kangana, Shrinate claim: L-G to police
DELHI LIEUTENANT Governor V K Saxena has directed Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to carry out a “thorough investigation” into the derogatory social media post from the handle of Congress leader Supriya Shrinate against actress and BJP candidate from Mandi Kangana Ranaut.
According to L-G House officials, the move comes on the basis of BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj's complaint to Saxena demanding an investigation and registration of an FIR against Shrinate for “outraging the modesty of a woman”.
After the post on March 25 triggered a furore on social media, Shrinate had termed it as “disgusting and objectionable”, and stated that someone else had posted it from her handle and that she had taken immediate action.
“Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. One of these people had posted a very disgusting and objectionable post today... As soon as I came to know about this, I removed that post. Anyone who knows me knows very well that I don't make personal remarks about any woman,” Shrinate had stated.
Officials said the L-G has issued directions to police to ascertain the truth in the entire episode as well as subsequent claims made by Shrinate denying her involvement.
“The L-G has asked the Police Commissioner to investigate as to who made the said derogatory post and also the mobile phone/ device that was used for making the said post,” an official said.
“He has also directed for verifying the claims of Shrinate wherein she has denied making the said post and sought to blame it on some individuals who have got access to her social media account. Further, police will also investigate as to who deleted the post after nearly two hours and the device used for deleting the same,” the official said.
