- UPASIKA SINGHAL & AMIT SHARMA

FROM THE Rapid Rail and Jewar airport to the construction of the Ram Mandir, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Thursday said all these projects came to fruition only because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was addressing a rally in Jewar in support of Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma, who has been fielded from the constituency for a third time for the Lok Sabha polls.

“Asia’s biggest airport is being constructed here and the people of Sikandrabad and Jewar will benefit the most by it... we’re giving you the Rapid Rail, the Metro, and... a dedicated freight corridor junction in Dadri... lakhs of jobs will be created,” said the CM.

Hitting out at the Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, he added:

“Programmes could have been implemented in the past too. But there were no people to think of the country’ s interests ... congress, SP, BSP — for them, their families are more important and they can’ t think beyond their selfishness.”

Sharma, who was also at the event, highlighted work carried out in the constituency in the last 10 years. “... people are grateful for making Gautam Buddha Nagar the economic capital of UP.”

During the day, the CM also held rallies in kit ha ur town, which falls under the Meerut-hapur constituency, where he compared the condition of ‘Bharat’ and Pakistan. “In 1947, Pakistan got a larger geographical area and lesser population as compared tobh ar at but now, 22 crore people in Pakistan have no food. In our country ,80 crore people are gettingfree ration ...2.5 cr ore have got free electricity besides benefit ting from a myriad other schemes implemented by our PM,” he said.

Rallying for the BJP candidate from these at, actor-turned-politician A run Govil,Yog is aid ,“Could leader soft hesp,b sp and congress build such a temple (Ram Mandir)? Could they ensure abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir or nullify Triple Talaq? All these things and many other mega projects have been done because the country is being led by Modi ji.”

At a similar meeting in Pilkhuwa town, under the Ghaziabad constituency, the CM said it was because of the propoor schemes of Modi that ‘Bharat’ has managed to pull crores of people above the poverty line in the last 10 years.

While sitting BJP MP from Ghaziabad, General VK Singh, was absent from the meeting, his Meerut counterpart, three-time MP Rajendra Agarwal shared the dais with Yogi. The BJP has nominated Atul Garg from Ghaziabad.

Meanwhile, at the Jewar rally, several women pointed out that law and order has improved in the past few years. “Women couldn’t go out after dark. there was a constantthreat of being eve-teased or molested.now, wefeelsaferunder Yogi ji and Modi ji’s rule,” said Savita Ahuja (28), a social worker.

The recent protests by farmers on the issue of higher compensation for land also did not seem to resonate with those on the ground .“we bought land for rs 24 lakh and sold it for Rs 1 crore... if that is not development, then what is ?” saidbhu pen der sol an ki (43), a farmer.
