Longest three hours of our lives: Vlogger couple recalls rape horror

- ABHISHEK ANGAD

RECALLING THE “longest three hours” of their lives when they saw “death up close”, a Brazilian travel vlogger, who was allegedly gangraped in Jharkhand’s Dumka district in March this year, and her Spanish husband narrated their ordeal through fresh videos uploaded on their Youtube channel on Wednesday.

The 59-minute video shows one of the culprits whom they met while doing a recce of the place they planned to camp at.

Stating that they uploaded the videos to “put an end to the tragic story”, they promised to continue their trips. The couple said in the video: “We have seen death up close and that has made us reflect a lot. Our life project should not change. In the face of misfortune, we must know how to stand up, be strong and move forward.”

Recalling the incident, the 63-year-old husband said the accused punched him several times and held him hostage at knifepoint.

“I didn't know what to do, I thought she was dead. She was there in the bushes and suddenly I saw her appear. It gave me joy you can’t even imagine. I couldn't do anything to protect her,” he recalled. He said the accused took nothing from them, all that they ever wanted was to rape her.

When the couple went to the hospital, they said, after a few checkups they were sent to a room which was full of mosquitoes and the windows were broken. “The room was one of the best they had... We didn't really know what was going on... If the police were going to take it seriously (or not)…we didn't know. So we decided to record everything,” the couple said.
