‘ Manifesto insult to citizens’: BJP leaders protest near Cong HQ

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

CALLING THE Congress manifesto an “insult” to the culture and the people of the country, leaders of the Delhi BJP protested near the Congress party headquarters on Wednesday and alleged that its leader Rahul Gandhi was indulging in politics that would lead to “disintegration” of the country.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the party over its manifesto, saying that a Congress government would distribute the nation’s wealth among “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”.

Senior BJP leaders, including national general secretary Tarun Chugh, Delhi state president Virendra Sachdeva, and president of its Mahila Morcha Richa Pandey Mishra, were part of the protest.

Chugh said the manifesto “conspires” to “snatch away” property and jewellery of women and give it to the minorities.

The Congress manifesto mentions that if voted to power, the party will “address the growing inequality of wealth and income through suitable changes in policies”. It also talks about caste discrimination and says that “while OBC, SC and ST constitute nearly 70 per cent of India’s population, their representation in high- ranking professions, services and businesses is disproportionately low”.

Sachdeva said: “The manifesto is full of appeasement and it will weaken the country... It is a conspiracy to become puppets in the hands of the ‘ tukde- tukde’ gang. Congress’s statement on the survey of properties is appeasement politics.” Chugh then hit out at the Congress for fielding Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi, alleging that he raised slogans in support of Afzal Guru in JNU.

The protesters marched from Jaisalmer House towards the Congress headquarters, but were stopped by the police. Several protesters including Mishra were detained.
