Ace fund manager Prashant Jain is guest at Explained Live today
THE 30- STOCK benchmark Sensex at the BSE hit the 75,000mark milestone for the first time in April, following a strong rally of over 25 per cent in the last one year. The rise in Sensex has not been in isolation as the broader indices witnessed even stronger gains in the same period with the midcap and the small cap index at BSE rising in excess of 60 per cent.
The rally in the markets over the last one year came despite the uncertainties of two ongoing wars in the world, of which, one has extended for over two years now; and concerns around inflation and slowdown in global growth, among others.
While equity investors have been enthused by the rise in markets and have seen a significant jump in their portfolio return & value, there is also a sense of anxiety among a large number of investors.
There are several questions in their minds: Is the market running ahead of economic fundamentals and will the rally sustain? Should one book profits and re- enter once the markets correct? Is it the time to go overweight on other asset classes and what should be the investment philosophy?
Many investors are also wondering about the impact that the elections in India and the US will have on the markets. They are also asking if the market will continue to generate double digit returns for young investors going forward and what should they do?

One of the most credible names in the fund management industry, Jain was formerly the executive director and CIO of HDFC AMC and has been in the fund management business for more than 33 years now.
As the CIO of HDFC AMC, he oversaw assets under management of over Rs 4.3 lakh crore and he has navigated the capital markets and investor's funds through several challenging periods since India’s economic liberalisation began in 1991.
