FAST BOWLER RYAN HARRIS RETIRES

Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after being ruled out of the Ashes tour by a knee injury. The 35-year-old, who made his Test debut in 2010, struggled with knee soreness following the first tour match in Kent last week and was replaced in the XI against Essex by Peter Siddle. Following scans, Harris, who underwent major surgery on his right knee last year and missed the recent Test series in the West Indies due to the birth of his first child, took the difficult decision to call time on his career following 27 Tests and 113 wickets. “Given the news I received yesterday, and after talking it over with my family, I know now is the right is the time to step away from cricket,” Harris said.
