God takes care of those in need

- By Swami Shantatmananda

Devotees would often approach Sri Ramakrishna and ask him about the protective power of God. In particular, those devotees who were tormented by worldly afflictions would often wish to know whether God would protect and bail them out from difficult situations.

Sri Ramakrishna in his own inimitable style would explain the idea to them once again drawing inference from an incident of daily life. Once, a family was invited for a feast. The father with his two sons went to participate in the function. Towards the end of the function when the dinner table was laid, the elder son who was quite grown up saw that his younger brother who was still a child was receiving all the attention. His father was taking every care to make him sit at the proper place and was also ensuring that he was served properly. This is because the father knew that the younger son was totally dependent on him and that he had to look after or take care of him. In the same way God certainly takes care of the devotees who are dependent on Him. But, normally worldlyminded people depend on their own ego and run here and there seeking solution whenever they are in difficulty. Finally, when they face defeat and their problems remain unresolved, they blame God. If one needs to be protected by God, one should practise self-surrender. The more and more one advances in that direction one finds that there is nothing to worry about in this world and one can live happily and in a contended way leaving their responsibilities to God.

But, then in that state of mind one should be prepared to accept every dispensation of God with unwavering faith. Such a person knows for certain that God will not forsake him in any circumstance and whatever happens is the will of God. In the Bhagavad Gita Sri Krishna clearly assures His the devotees about His protecting power.
